Crib Mobiles

These 2 products demonstrate various aspects of my skill set, including the industrial design of all elements, illustration of the graphics on the mobiles, development of mechanisms, and designing for channel strategy.

During the design process, there were enough good ideas that we decided to create 2 mobiles – one using a traditional motor for the Bright Starts brand, and a second higher-end version using a silent stepper motor for the Baby Einstein brand. One challenge encountered along the way was the fact that the stepper motor had very low torque and couldn’t rotate a traditional canopy of toys. Through some experimentation, I developed a new canopy design using a single string to center the weight and greatly reduce the torque required.
